AUSTIN, Minn. The makers of the world famous SPAM Family of Products is bringing the beloved product out of its blue and yellow can. This August, Hormel Foods launches SPAM Singles nationwide, bringing SPAM lovers the savory and salty-sweet taste they crave in a convenient, single-serve foil pouch great for an easy meal at home or on-the-go.

According to the U.S. Census, nearly 50 percent of the U.S. population, 95.7 million people, is unmarried or single. Whether single or attached, SPAM lovers can enjoy a portion-controlled 3-ounce protein-packed slice of delicious ham and pork wherever their busy lives may take them. SPAM Singles are great to have on hand in the pantry for a quick meal at home or to fuel outdoor activities such as camping, hiking or hunting.

When introduced in 1937, SPAM luncheon meat was one of the first convenient, moderately priced and great tasting meat products on the market. Today SPAM Singles offer that same flavorful experience with extra convenience for active, busy consumers, making SPAM as relevant today as it was 70 years ago.

"We are excited to bring time-starved consumers this innovative and convenient product as part of the 70th anniversary celebration of SPAM," said Dan Goldman, product manager, Hormel Foods. "Enjoyed alone or easily incorporated into recipes, tasty SPAM Singles give consumers the portion-control and easy clean-up they desire.

SPAM Single varieties include SPAM Single Classic and SPAM Single Lite, which contains less fat, fewer calories and less sodium. The fully-cooked meat offers a flavorful experience anywhere and everywhere, no refrigeration needed.

SPAM Singles can be enjoyed cold or hot by frying, broiling, grilling or microwaving, either alone or in a variety of flavorful recipes, including SPAM Single Egg & Cheese Muffin, SPAM Single SPAMBURGER Hamburger or SPAM Single Mac & Cheese.

SPAM Singles have been available regionally since 2004 and will join the other items in the SPAM Family of Products in supermarkets nationwide beginning in August. The average retail price of a SPAM Single is $1.09.

The SPAM Family of Products include the following flavorful varieties: Classic, Lite, Less Sodium, Hickory Smoke Flavored, Oven Roasted Turkey, Hot & Spicy, SPAM with Cheese, SPAM with Bacon and SPAM with Honey.
