These companies have included hotel credit cards in the new incentive programs that they have devised. Credit card companies want people to charge more to their credit cards so they can make the interest off of it because they are in the business of making money. Hotel credit cards are just some of the money making ideas that many credit cards companies use.

You can earn free points when you use hotel credit cards to pay for your stay at a hotel. A number of credit card companies have deals with some hotel chains. This would allow a cardholder to earn extra points for charges made at the hotel. Using your credit card to buy merchandise at a hotel will allow you get more points than by using your card at the grocery store. However, you should be sure of the hotel chain that you will use the most. You can really benefit from these cards if frequently stay in hotels.

The teaming up of a credit card company and a hotel is a win-win situation for both of these establishments, but can be a losing situation for the consumer. Hotel credit cards can lure you into charging things you normally would not charge or to shop in places that you may not usually shop. You may also be tempted to charge purchases to your credit card just to earn the free hotel points. You can end up owing debts that you will eventually have to pay off or you could end in big credit trouble.

You should also avoid wasting the points you earned with these cards. You should at least try to get a gift certificate or some other trade in on your points from the credit card company if you are not going to use your points. However, the credit card company would usually just offer to extend the deadline for the use of the points you have accumulated.

If you understand that earning points cost money, then you can benefit well by using hotel credit cards. You have to realize that the points are not really free because you have to spend your own money to earn them. You should treat these points like cash that should not be wasted. Remember not to earn these points through foolish purchases. Find a different type of credit card that may work better for your spending habits if you think that you are not earning points easily or just wasting the points you earn with hotel credit cards.
